MS21 article increases awareness of the impact of cognitive impairment on employment
MS in the 21st Century (MS21) is pleased to announce its latest publication, entitled “Cognitive impairment and its impact on employment: A qualitative interview-based study involving healthcare professionals and people living with multiple sclerosis.”
David Yeandle (who is a patient member of the MS21 initiative) and co-authors discuss the results of a series of qualitative interviews carried out with healthcare professionals (HCPs) working in neurology, as well as people living with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). The interviews explored the impact of cognitive symptoms due to multiple sclerosis (MS) on the employment of PwMS and how these challenges can be mitigated.
The study identified three key themes: the implications of cognitive symptoms on work; challenges in addressing cognitive impairment and its impact on work in MS care; and strategies and support for managing the impact of cognitive symptoms. Through analysis of these themes, this article explores workplace adjustments and identifies topics for resource development that could support PwMS in the workplace.
