Experts Discuss New Consensus Recommendations on MS Care

15 December 2025

A new podcast episode in collaboration with RealTalkMS features experts Amanda Montague, the Interim President and CEO of the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, and Professor Elisabeth G Celius, a neurologist from Oslo University Hospital in Norway talking to host Jon Strum.

They discuss how MS21 has been working on consensus recommendations to improve multiple sclerosis (MS) care and reduce the burden of living with MS. MS21 recently updated its 2013 recommendations for MS care, co-created with people living with MS and health care providers.

Elisabeth explains that health care providers and people with MS agreed on what the top 3 priorities should be:

  1. Access to quick and decisive treatment after diagnosis
  2. Access to multifunctional care (eg, rehabilitation and psychologic support)
  3. Treatment options to manage invisible symptoms

Both Amanda and Elisabeth discuss the potential positive impacts of these recommendations, such as providing a roadmap of care to aspire to (even in areas where resources are limited), empowering patients to ask for better care, and raising awareness of what good care should look like around the world.
