After graduating with her medical degree from the University of Madrid, Professor Oreja-Guevara completed her PhD thesis in neuroimmunology at the Max-Planck-Institut für Neurobiologie at the University of Munich, Germany. She then completed a residency in the Department of Neurology at the University of Bochum, Germany, followed by a 1-year fellowship in Neuroimaging at the University Hospital San Raffaele.

Professor Oreja-Guevara’s research interests center on clinical and neuroimaging correlations in MS and the use of optical coherence tomography. Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is among her other therapy areas of interest, and she is actively involved in the evaluation of new drugs for the treatment of MS and NMO. As an investigator, she has participated in a number of MS clinical trials. In addition to her busy clinical and research careers, she has held active leadership positions in several national organizations and academic societies, including the Demyelinating Diseases Group, the Neuroimaging Group of the Spanish Neurological Society and the Madrid Neurological Association. Professor Oreja-Guevara is a member of the Education Committee of the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) and an expert for the Scientific Advisory Group on Neurology (SAG-N) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and for the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Medicinal Products.
